"F-Friends...?"
For a brief instant, Polka could have sworn her heart stopped. It was one thing to dream of having friends, let alone people that would actually want to be around her, but it was quite another thing for it to be a reality. She barely knew what to say. It was obvious that Polka wanted, no... needed friends, but she was hesitant to actually confirm that someone was her friend or not. Yet there was Wilbur, seemingly oblivious to what she thought was apparent hesitation, willing to extend an offer of friendship. Deep down, she hoped that she wasn't dreaming again. How wonderful it would be if she woke up the next morning to find that she really did have a friend!
Better make sure he's not kidding... she thought. It was better to be safe than sorry, at least in Polka's mind. "You... you really want to be my friend? Even though I'm kind of... strange?" she asked. That was her own assumption of herself, at any rate. She must have seemed strange if she was so seemingly hesitant about everything.

Wilbur looked a bit confused at that sentence. "Polka, i think that if your strange then i must be the most sane person the island. I'm pretty sure i used to be the king of strange before coming here and then i met green guys that could change into animals and kids whos limbs could become machines. So i think we are in the clear." he smiled. "So yeah, i do wnat to be your friend."

That confirmed it well enough. Wilbur actually wanted to be her friend. She felt as though she was going to burst as happiness filled her being. Now she could safely say that someone was her friend. She was certain the smile forming on her face was more evident than any of the others that had slipped by her defenses. "I... I'd like that. I'd like that very much." Polka said. She had no reason to really explain what she had meant by calling herself strange, not unless Wilbur really wanted to know all about her. She didn't think he'd want to ask, though. Just the fact that Polka had confirmed she wanted to be his friend probably would have sufficed.
I did it, mom. I made a friend. she thought. Polka did wonder how long she would be able to keep Wilbur as a friend, though. How much longer did she have? Not even she really knew. "I'm glad I was able to make at least one friend here. It's a step up from back home." she admitted.

Wilbur smile instantly became big again. "Really? That's awesome. I was kind of afraid you would say no but i mean you seem too nice to do something like that you know?" he smiled brightly again. "So, am I the first person you've met so far?" he was very curious about this.

Polka nodded a little in response to the question. It wasn't that she hadn't wanted to meet people, but more that she had been afraid to meet them. She guessed people would have assumed she was just timid and didn't like to meet people. What did Wilbur think? Polka didn't know for certain. "I've really been sticking around here since I came here. Since a lot of people don't come this way that frequently, I've just ended up missing a lot of opportunities to meet anyone. Until today, I didn't know anybody here at all." Polka explained. She'd caught a brief glimpse of a little spotted dog that had been wandering around, one wearing a frilly pink collar, but Polka hadn't tried to interact with her. So it was safe to say that Polka had been deprived of human contact in the couple of days she had been on the island.
"I guess it would be best to say that interacting with people isn't really my strong suit." she lied. She hated to lie like that, but it was a much more delicate way of saying what she meant. Blue eyes shifted to the floor briefly, almost as though Polka was ashamed to say it at all, before slowly going back up to meet the brown gaze of Wilbur. She hadn't noticed it before, but Wilbur did have a nice pair of eyes. Almost like milk chocolate. "But... maybe I'm getting better. I mean, I managed to survive this conversation didn't I?" she asked.

"You certianly did, you lasted longer than most would when people start talking to me." Wilbur said with a smirk. "But then agian its one thing we have in common, interacting with people, while i'm not shy people just don't like me very much and it really isn't something I am used to. After all, who wouldn't love me?" he asked with a funny humorous gesture.

We... we really are similar.
Although Polka wasn't going to say it out loud, she found it incredibly odd that the two of them seemed to be in similar situations. People didn't like them and so they tended to not talk to a lot of people. If that wasn't odd, Polka didn't know what was. But she was brought away from that thought by Wilbur's last statement. It made her giggle a little. Such confidence in himself. If only she had that sort of confidence...
"You really are interesting, Wilbur. I've never met anyone like you before." Polka said. So confident, so up front with what he seemed to be thinking, and not to mention willing to stay with her or at least willing to extend a hand of friendship. It wasn't every day that Polka met someone like him. "It seems to me that your getting lost was a good thing." she giggled.
