"Hey. I'm getting better, aren't I?" Hiccup asked. He knew he wasn't the most brilliant when it came to trying to understand the language Atticus had been teaching him, but he'd come far since starting out. Well, he thought he had at any rate. Who was to say for certain. He was about to try and explain to Merida what Atticus had been teaching him exactly, but something stopped him. Something... familiar.
"Hiccup?"
Hiccup turned to meet the speaker and felt his heart skip a beat. Astrid. She just looked so... different in attire that wasn't her usual Viking wear. It was a nice change of pace, but Hiccup dared not speak his mind on that matter. He didn't want to risk getting punched for commenting on how even Astrid could manage to look feminine. I'd rather leave that much for Snotlout to make a fool out of himself. he thought.
"Hey, Astrid. How's it... I mean, how are you?" he asked. Hiccup couldn't bring himself to slip into the slang language again. Not right there.
----
"That would be lovely. Thank you." Hubert replied. Well versed in manners, Hubert knew better than to decline an offer of a drink at a dance. Sooner or later he and Pascal would probably need the extra hydration. He didn't know how much dancing would actually be accomplished, but that didn't matter in the long run. "Pascal, would you-"
"Whoa..." Pascal cut Hubert off, her attention focused on Twilight's magic, and found herself becoming more eager. She'd seen magic before, mainly related to cryas artes like Hubert, Cheria, and Sophie's healing skills, but she'd never seen anyone make something levitate like Twilight could. It was so cool to see! "How are you doing that? Making your drink all floaty and stuff, I mean." Pascal said.

As Laila watched Lucky's once happy expression shift in to a slightly sad, confused and hurt one, the female gave a small smile and shook her head. The pup didn't do anything wrong, though she probably shouldn't have freaked out about it either. The female's tone was kind, if a little sad. "I just took a bit of a walk, to clear my head.." She replied, placing a gentle paw on his shoulder.
"And no, Lucky..It wasn't your fault, it was mine. I suppose the invitation to live among Humans kind of shocked me a little..." She gave a small , sympathetic smile and gestured to a nearby table, pausing to watch a Blue furred fox walk over to a German Shepherd and a Chihuahua singing some sort of upbeat, if a tad vulagr song over a Microphone before turning her attention back to the horseshoe spotted pup. "Come on, I'll explain once we take a seat." She shot him another friendly smile, in hopes to cheer him up just a little. "I don't know about you, but I'd honestly hate to stand around all night."

Astrid felt her lip twitch upwards into a smile. "So you still speak like a normal person!" Astrid exclaimed. With that she closed the last remaining steps and found herself beside Hiccup. Maybe it was a good thing she came to this dance after all. Though she felt self conscious. She wasn't known to care about what others thought of her or to care about most others business. When it came to her however, out of her element and in a dress, who wouldn't feel a little self conscious? Astrid then realized Hiccup wasn't in his normal attire either. She studied that as well, and raised an eyebrow to him. Both had actually taken off their viking attire and put on formal clothing to go to a dance. Which was slightly against the nature of both. Registering Hiccup's stuttered question, she decided he probably wanted an answer.
"Fine, the island must be getting to me though," she gestured to her attire, "thank the gods Snotlout isn't here. Got to you too huh?" Blue eyes took in Hiccup's friends. She gave a nod to Atticus the penguin who talked rather odd. Then there was the other red head. "Hey Atticus and...?" She inquired towards Merida.

Lucky's expression brightened somewhat hearing Laila's explanation. Ok, so she wasn't angry. That was good. He was a little disappointed though, when she asked him to sit down with her instead of remaining where they were. "Well...ok but we're getting at least one dance in before the night's through." Reluctantly he followed her, jumping into a chair opposite hers and propping his front paws up on the table. "So, what's this big explanation hmm?" He asked, resting his head on his front paws and leaning forward with a slightly dreamy expression. "Tell me."

Laila smiled slightly, crossing her legs while her upper arms rested on the table. Not very ladylike, but she found that life wasn't as much fun if ladies were expected to be ladies all the time. She looked over to the Shepherd before looking over to Lucky, giving a soft smile before taking a hesitant breath.
"Well..when I was working for Charlie Anna, maybe even before then, I noticed that a lot of his goons, a lot of other Dogs, always used to be very scared whenever a horn would sound during the Night, the time of day when most of us would be out and about. It wasn't just a regular horn, it was more like a boats. And they would try to hide whenever a white truck came circling around, and I asked them. It turns out that Truck belonged to Humans, and that Dogs were scared of the fact that if you were caught, by the Dog pound or by a Human, you were never heard from again. I was almost caught once or twice, actually, and..."
Laila trailed off slightly, instead looking at her paws on the table and her tone was a bit softer, more sad yet heartfelt. "Honestly, the thought of living with Humans scared me a little. I've never known a life, or any other Dog, who would willingly want to live with them...I don't know how they acted beyond what I was told in stories when I was younger, and the occasion of almost being run over. And in Mumbai, Dogs, especially strays, aren't well liked, even if it's required to treat strays with kindness, according to their laws..."

Hiccup wanted to kick himself when he realized he hadn't yet introduced Merida. What a gentleman! Obvious sarcasm aside, Hiccup knew he needed to at least introduce her before things got awkward. "Ah... right. Astrid, this is Merida. She's a new friend of mine. Merida, this is Astrid. She's from Berk like I am." Hiccup said. Now that that bit of awkwardness was out of the way, they could focus on the night ahead of them. They would have to figure out something to do before the night was through.
"So... now what? You think they expect us to dance or something?" Hiccup asked. It was an offhanded question, really. In truth, Hiccup had no idea what was expected of them at the party. He was just taking a stab in the dark.

"Nice t'meet you Astrid." She said with a small smile. Obviously she knew Hiccup, so how bad could she be? She seemed as unhappy as the rest did. She tugged on her dress a bit. This one was considerably less tight than the one her mother made her wear, but she still felt out of place in it. Dresses she could handle, shiny, tight, extravagant dresses were another story.
"Well it is a dance." She said in response to Hiccup. "But it's not like they can force us." She said with a laugh. She didn't mind dancing. Not all that slow dancing stuff, but more upbeat stuff. She looked around, nobody seemed to be dancing yet.
---
Rai flashed a smile at them. Dawn and Ursula seemed cool enough. Dawn has a sweetness about her that he didn't see in Ursula. But still, so sense in being rude (he saved that for his friends). "Nice to meet you ladies." He began. "How ya liking the party so far?" He asked.

Astrid nodded to Merida. "Good to meet you too Merida." Astrid looked over the girl's unruly red mane. The slight tug on her dress brought Astrid to the conclusion she was uncomfortable as well. Something the blonde could sympathies with. Astrid followed the red head's gaze to the dance floor. No dancing, so no pressure. She didn't recall too much dancing in the ways of Berk, and nodded in agreement to Merida.
"We're not the only ones not dancing." Astrid observed aloud. "So I guess we have a few minutes before we either join them or go find a place to hide." the blonde teased good naturedly. Astrid, out of habit began to try and tuck her hair behind her ear but to no avail.

Dawn smiled a tiny smile before nodding. "Yeah, its nice. It's just weird not to see anyone dancing..." not that she would admit that she wanted to dance, but it was because she couldn't and almost everyone knew that.
"As if you would dance anyways, DD here has two left feet." Ursula said with a smile.
Oh, how Dawn just wanted to punch her in the face, but not tonight, not with a cute guy in front of her. So she pulled a quick and or fake smile on her face. "Right, two left feet. That's me."

Lucky stared at the table as he listened to Laila's story, a curious blank expression crossing his face. "Well......not all humans are like that. Really." He looked up at her. "My pets are really nice. We all live on this HUGE farm and there's plenty of space to run around and all kinds of neat stuff to do. We have our own swimming hole, and chow tower and everything! We even have a nanny that comes out twice a day to run the tower and give us food." He smiled. "I think you'd like it there. Really." (Sorry about the long wait Laila x.X my muse sort of died for this place.)
