"Weird bird?" Robin asked, "Why would I do that? You've the most normal person I've met on this island."

"What? Don't you think it's weird that I'm more in to research and that stuff than anything else?" she asked. She didn't quite feel annoyed by Robin's response to her rambling, but she'd honestly thought she'd come off as weird because of her desire to keep her nose in a book rather than the alternative. Granted, Estelle had been a bookworm as well... but the Princess was chattier than Rita and she was more the type of girl that liked wearing dresses and such. Maybe we are similar...
Was it a good thing being similar? Rita didn't know. Truthfully, she was sort of relieved that Robin hadn't had girly expectations of her or anything of that nature. It was a relief, to say the very least. Still, it was kind of odd at the same time. How often did one come across someone that was so similar to themselves?

"I'm not really allowed to judge you on that when I'm mostly here preferring to train and stay near my teammates," he said shrugging his shoulders. Then again if Beast boy saw him talking to a girl there would be a lot of questions he'd have to answer, or maybe more of a lot of really bad jokes to deal with. Robin was never really sure with BB. He liked talking to Rita though, someone else who didn't really want to find love just prove that there was no need for it. He wasn't really sure what Rita was planning to do with that answer, but he was hoping that it wasn't to fry him.

"Huh."
Rita just left it at that. Just a small 'huh' to acknowledge she understood. That in and of itself might have been a little strange for her, but presently she found that she didn't care much. She'd have said more, mainly about how she was glad that Yuri and the others (particularly Estelle) hadn't followed her, but there wasn't much of a point to it. He probably didn't want to hear about her friends from home anyway.
"Beginning to wish I'd just stayed home in Aspio. I could at least have the opportunity to hang out with people I actually know. ...No offense." Rita said. As soon as those last two words left her mouth, Rita froze for a moment. Since when did she say stuff like that? She usually didn't care if she offended anyone, right?
Must be the stupid island getting to you.

Robin shrugged his shoulders and glanced at her, "Hey none taken. I get it. I'd probably have wanted to stay in Jump City if my friends weren't here. I mean Hanging with new people is fine and all, but friends are a little better." He noticed her stiffen but didn't want to say anything about it. She must have just felt weird. The only down side to this island besides all the love thing, was that Black Fire was there too.
"So Rita," he said, "Where did you learn to use fire like that?"

He actually wants to know about you? And here I thought Estelle was the only one to want to dig that deeply.
Disregarding that thought, Rita decided it would be okay to answer. What harm would there be in doing so? "I taught myself when I was a kid. I didn't really have a lot to do since I was on my own, so I started looking into learning artes... or magic in general as people outside of Terca Lumeries would know it. Fire is my specialty." Rita explained. It had been said often enough that she was a pyromaniac in battle. Karol and Raven in particular could attest to that. That thought brought a playful smirk to her face. Admittedly, Rita did miss tormenting Karol and Raven. It was just too easy to mess with them, and so fun at the same time.
"I'm going out on a limb here and guessing it's not that common for people to use magic in this Jump City of yours."

"Not really, the only girl I know that used magic is Raven and she's here now so that doesn't really matter," he said with a shrug, "Mostly normal people, some aliens, and a hell of a lot of villains."
He rolled his shoulders back and watched Rita's expressions. They really weren't that far off from his own. Then again she was a bit of a spit fire, it made the superhero wonder what it would be like to spar against her. At the same time he didn't want to risk being burnt to a crisp. Training herself to use those powers was impressive.
"Your magic is pretty impressive, do you have to use focus words?"

Focus words? Rita guessed that would be the same as an incantation, so she nodded a little in response. Now she was in her comfort zone, free to speak about her specialty as long as she liked without worry. It was a good feeling. "It takes up a lot of concentration, if that's what you mean. If I lose focus then I have to start casting all over again. It kind of got to be a pain in battles I had to fight back home." Rita said. She couldn't even count how many times an enemy had struck her with some kind of attack while she was trying to cast, and she'd also lost track of the times that that had led to her blowing up at her teammates to guard her while she cast her spells.
"Different levels of concentration for different levels of magic. A simple spell, a fireball for example, doesn't take much concentration. But say I wanted to summon a tidal wave... well, it'd take more concentration. There'd be longer incantations to go along with it, too." Rita said. She wondered if maybe she should show him what she meant. She'd already shown off Fireball and Spiral Flare, but maybe a different spell would help.

"Ah so they're all different," Robin said, "My friend just repeats three words when she really wants to focus. Other than that I haven't really heard her mutter spells. I think you two would have some things in common. Though, I guess that's not really my place to say."
He shrugged his shoulders and took a deep breath in, letting it out slowly. Why was he slightly nervous around Rita? Shaking his head quickly he rubbed at the mask covering his eyes.
"So any other things that you find fun?"

"Pretty much. Each spell requires a different incantation, though there are ways to speed up the process. I just haven't been able to do that in a while. But... moving on." Rita said dismissively. She didn't want to ramble endlessly about her battle tactics and the strategies she and her friends had pinned down. It probably would be boring. Besides, he had asked another question. This one resulted in a casual shrug from the redhead as she went over her 'fun' activities in her head.
"There isn't much to me, really. Reading, practicing my spells, hanging out with my friends when I have time... that's pretty much it." Rita said. Her expression turned a tiny bit annoyed at that notion. When had she gotten so... boring? Well, she didn't think the listed activities were that boring but they might have sounded that way to someone else.
