(ooc: July 25th. Open only to Robin and Rita.)
"JUST BURN ALREADY!"
Suffice to say, Rita was pissed off. Even though she thought she had made it perfectly clear that she wasn't interested in anyone on the island, male or female, she was still subjected to the idea that sooner or later someone would have to unlock her lock. That had set Rita on a bit of a frenzy and she had burst out of the mansion with the intention of destroying something. That something had been her lock that she had been forced to wear like a piece of jewelery. She'd pulled it off from around her neck and thrown it to the ground, and once that was done she had proceeded to summon forth a fire spell she thought would be sufficient in burning the damn thing to oblivion.
For several moments Rita stood there, watching as the flickering flames seemed to be burning the lock with a sort of sick grin that seemed to indicate she was enjoying the spectacle. However, when the flames finally died away she saw, to her horror, that the lock was in one piece and appeared untouched. Thus, she screamed and proceeded to launch another, larger fireball at the golden lock.
"WHY. WON'T. YOU. BURN?!"
Rita had become so caught up in her frenzy that she didn't realize her shouts had attracted attention. By that point, though, the redheaded mage didn't care. She just wanted the stupid lock out of her life so she could prove that she didn't need anybody telling her she needed to fall in love.

Robin watched from the shadows, one good thing about ditching his usual get up was it was way easier to blend in to the back ground. Watching the girl through his mask he walked forward, maybe she was here for the same reason, nothing better to do. He adjusted his leather jacket before tapping her on the shoulder.
"Maybe its fire proof?" he suggested. He regretted the question and moved a few steps so that he was in her line of sight, but far enough away where he could maneuver just encase she decided to fry him.

Feeling someone tap her on the shoulder, Rita immediately tensed up and whirled around to see whoever had decided to intrude on what she had foolishly assumed was a solo act. His remark certainly hadn't helped any, seeming rather smart alecky to her. "Oh, we got a comedian. Real funny." she deadpanned. Rita was not at all in the mood to deal with shenanigans of that sort, especially when she needed to blow off steam, so it was safe to say she was willing to take it out on someone. Subconsciously, she had summoned another fireball and allowed it to linger in front of her. She wasn't going to send it out unless this guy, whom she thought she recognized from the game of Truth or Dare the previous day, found some other way to push her buttons the wrong way.
"Look, I don't know who the hell you think you are but this is not the time to mess with me. Unless you're looking to add yourself to my growing list of things I'm pissed off at, I suggest thinking about whatever else you're going to say carefully."
Bright green eyes narrowed dangerously, almost as if she were daring Robin to mess with her more. She had more than just fire at her disposal, but she'd be willing to throw some pyromania his way. All it would take was being pushed in just the right... wrong way.

Robin kept his face neutral as he raised his hands up to his head, palms facing Rita. He sighed and shook his head, "Listen. I didn't mean anything by it. I hate this key as much as you probably hate that lock, considering you tried to flambe it. I was just making an observation."
He lowered himself to sit in the grass, leaning forward his looked up at her and shrugged his shoulders. The green hoodie under his jacket bunching in that annoying way that all of them did. He looked at her lock and tossed his key next to it.
"If you want to try again please do," he said, "Maybe it'll work if you have those two things."

Her gaze softened and a sort of interested look formed on her face. She hadn't met very many people that could meet her anger with such a cool, calm air about them. It admittedly impressed her. Despite that, she was still angered about the lock and key thing... so she was willing to try and fry something else. But she waited. If Robin was trying to test her somehow, he seemed to be doing a good job of it. For a moment, Rita did wonder if he had some objective in mind. She doubted it, though. He seemed as eager as she to try and rid himself of his key.
"I have to admit, it's rare that someone actually isn't that freaked out by my means of blowing off steam." Rita said. Back to the subject at hand, she would admit that she was interested to see if the fire would have a different effect if there were two objects present. Her fireball vanished and she turned around to where she had thrown her lock. Still unburned and brand new. With the key next to it, it almost seemed like they were taunting her. "Okay, let's give this another shot. Maybe a more powerful spell..."
Orange flecks of light appeared around her and for a few moments she didn't move. She was muttering the incantation necessary for a more powerful fire spell. If it worked, she would be quite pleased with herself and definitely not as angry. "Spiral Flare!" Rita exclaimed. A large glyph appeared in front of her and seemed to summon forth a large ball of fire. Within a few moments it was flying through the air and soon collided with the two golden objects.
When the flames finally subsided, Rita had to just stare in horror. The fire hadn't done a thing to either the lock or the key. "DAMMIT! The hell are these things made of? Obsidian??" she shouted.

Robin watched her features soften as she looked at him. He had to admit, a fire girl was interesting and a bit freaky. It didn't bother him though, hell he hung out with a cyborg, a girl who shot star bolts out of her hands and eyes, a green kid that turned into animals, and a girl that used dark magic and had a father who was basically the bringer of the apocalypse. She was interesting.
He watched her shoot another hotter fire at the objects from the grass. An irritated tick started in his jaw as the lock and key came out unharmed. What the hell were they made of? He got up and walked over to the discarded items. He wasn't sure if they were still hot so he squatted down and examine them.
"Maybe a mix metal. Platinum and obsidian...maybe gold and some other metal," he sighed and raked a hand through his hair, "This is irritating."

"Or maybe they're magic resistant..." Rita hated to sound defeated, but her fire artes weren't doing anything. Knowing that much meant that water wouldn't do anything, nor would ground artes or shadow artes. That fact succeeded in pushing Rita further in the direction of being mad at the world. In her anger, she kicked her lock away and sent it flying into the fountain nearby. What followed was a long, guttural groan coming from within her. Suffice to say, Rita was quite angry at the universe.
"I hate this place! But no, I just had to get invited here. The world just wasn't satisfied with me staying in Aspio and researching. All I want to do is prove to that idiot Aphrodite that I don't need anybody telling me I need love to be happy. Is that so wrong?" she asked. It was mainly a rhetorical question, but by that point she wouldn't have minded if Robin actually voiced his own opinion on the matter.
"Next person that tries to tell me I need love is getting punched straight to the moon." she stated.

Robin nodded as he listened to Rita talk, however he wasn't expecting the sudden foot to lock connection. Jumping back to avoid contact with his face he watched the thing fly with a plop into the water of the fountain. She had a good leg on her, as well as fire...magic? Well that was a bit surprising. That's when Rita seemed to really go off on the island. He couldn't help it, he laughed.
"I know what you mean," he said, "I don't really know why I came. I just did. I rather be at Jump City saving the place on a daily basis. God only knows what trouble that place has gotten into by now. Batman's going to kill me."
He shook his head and looked up at Rita, "As for the whole 'Aphrodite love...whatever', it's really dumb. I was pretty happy kicking butt all day with no break. Who needs love? It's just a distraction."
He looked around, almost expecting Starfire to pop out and start yelling at him about it. He let out a relieved breath and tapped his key to make sure it wasn't hot.

Now Rita really was intrigued. It wasn't often that she found someone that actually... well, agreed with her about the love thing. But as she listened to Robin speak, she found herself agreeing with what he was saying. She folded her arms across her chest and leaned slightly to the side, grinning softly and looking like she was actually a little happier for the first time that day. "I like the way you think. Actually, I was beginning to think that I was the only one that hated everything about this place." she commented.
Now that she thought about it, Rita realized she hadn't actually met Robin properly. The day before she couldn't recall if he'd ever said his name and she hadn't bothered to ask for it then. Maybe now would be a good time. "As long as we're both venting our frustrations, I'm a little annoyed that I can't seem to recall a name despite recognizing your face from yesterday." she said.

Robin smirked slightly as he pocketed his key and watch Rita grin, "Thanks. I don't like this place much. I'm pretty sure there are a few others who don't like it here either. As for my name, just call me Robin."
He leaned against a tree and looked at her, "Same thing goes for you miss. I can't seem to recall your name, just that you were standing next to the girl with the long blonde hair. Has she ever had a haircut?"

"Rita Mordio. And hell if I know about Rapunzel's hair situation. She's never told me anything about it." she replied. The blonde in question had never mentioned her hair, and Rita chose not to ask about it. Far be it for her to question someone's hair style. With her own little introduction out of the way, Rita turned and moved toward the fountain so that she could fish her lock out of the water. Even if she hated the thing, sooner or later someone was going to ask about it so she figured she needed to keep it around.
"Anyway, I don't get what the big deal about all this love nonsense is. Seems like a waste of time to me." she said. It was also another source of annoyance to her. Back when she'd been traveling with Yuri and friends, she'd been the receiving end of a situation involving Yuri teasing her about supposedly having a crush on Estelle. Despite her quickly killing that rumor, it still gnawed at her. So love tended to be a sore subject for her. "What's the point in bringing a bunch of strangers together and expecting love to happen? Seems dumb to me." Rita said.

"Maybe this woman isn't very good at her job, or maybe she's lazy," Robin said with a shrug.
He was getting antsy with nothing to do. Hoping Rita wouldn't mind he went into a handstand and followed her over to the fountain. One thing he'd yet to find on the Island was evil or even just a training area he could use for practice. He'd have to make do.
"So Rita," he said, his voice calm for someone with a bunch of blood rushing to his head, "Why even come? You could have turned the invitation down I guess...or something."

"To prove a point. Rita Mordio needs no one, no matter what some freak who calls herself Aphrodite says."
And no matter what anyone else says. she added silently. The redhead was adamant about her stance on the love thing. She could have stayed home, this was true, but if her friends had gotten word of the invitation then she knew Karol and Raven would be quick to tease her about it. She'd taught them a thing or two for teasing her before, but she still hated it regardless. She didn't need love. Period. Before, she had her friendships and her research. In truth, Rita believed her research was her true love even if she had to scrap a lot of it in favor of the mana research replacing aer and blastia. Why should anyone tell her differently?
"I mean, sure I've got my friends but they're just my friends. If anything, I'm in love with my research and my magic. I'd be fine without someone telling me I need love to complete my life or whatever garbage people are saying around here." Rita said. She had a similar question for Robin, though. He could have easily rejected the invitation as well. What was his reasoning for coming? "What about you? You got something to prove, too?"

"I guess," he said rolling out of the handstand and into a low crouch, "Back at Jump City, there was a girl, she was an alien and a lot of...stuff happened. I decided that love wasn't meant for me. All I needed was my crime fighting and my friends. When I got the letter, I just wanted to prove to myself that I didn't need anyone, or love."
He shrugged and scratched at his head. That wasn't the only reason though, getting teased about Starfire all the time got annoying. When he got a chance to escape that he took it. Then again, now with Raven, Beast Boy, and Blackfire here there was a chance of that picking up again.
"I don't believe in love."

Once again, Rita found herself astonished. It was hard to believe that there was someone on the island whose views were so similar to hers. But she didn't want to chance anything by saying that much. Instead, she just shook her head a little and folded her arms across her chest after pocketing her lock in one of the many pockets scattered across her mismatched clothing. "You sure are something. I half expected you to be another one of those guys that was here to flirt with as many girls as possible." Rita admitted. She had started to doubt that when Robin and she had started talking, but she was only just then admitting her initial thoughts.
"I can't say whether I believe in love or not, but so far the only true love I've ever had is for knowledge. Can't say for certain if I've ever loved anyone before, and I don't intend on finding out any time soon. And I'll be damned if someone tries to change how I look to make that happen."
Rita had been aware of the various clothes stores scattered across the shopping center, and she didn't particularly care to venture in to any of them. Her style was her own. If any guy tried to make her change that, well... Robin had witnessed what she could do. She almost felt sorry for the guy that would be on the receiving end of her wrath. Almost. "Go on and call me a weird bird if you like, but I don't really care. If I gotta be considered weird, then so be it. I'd much rather be a researcher than some flirty, flighty girl that's only in this game for the love." she stated. Rita didn't care if she'd been rambling. She just had to vent.
